Patricia A. Tornillo, Esquire
President and Chief Legal Officer

Trish Tornillo is the President and Chief Legal Officer as well as a shareholder of MedLaw Claims Corporation. Trish has over 25 years of experience in handling insurance related claims, both as an attorney and as a professional claims adjuster. Trish received highest honors for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average in her major course of study as an undergraduate. She began her career in private practice and then served as In-House Counsel for Travelers Insurance Company for ten years. For the last five years, Trish Tornillo has worked as a Claims Attorney and held the office of Assistant Vice President for a third-party administrator managing healthcare litigation nationally. She is licensed to practice law in both Texas and Florida and is active in many professional associations. She is also a licensed claims adjuster. Trish earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Florida and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from South Texas College of Law.

 

Elizabeth K. Kelly
Assistant General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Claims

Elizabeth Kelly is the Assistant General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Claims of MedLaw Claims Corporation. Prior to joining MedLaw, Ms. Kelly practiced as a medical malpractice defense attorney. Elizabeth specialized in the defense of hospitals, nurses, physicians and medical groups. In addition to her capacity as a litigator, she advised hospitals regarding their Risk Management and Quality Department Policies and Procedures. Her experience in healthcare combined with her litigation practice makes her insightful as to the needs of hospitals and healthcare providers.

Elizabeth graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Speech Communication. She matriculated to Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law where she received a Juris Doctorate. Elizabeth has served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Ethics since 2003. Elizabeth was named a Texas Monthly “Rising Stars – Top Lawyers Under 40” in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

 

Melanie Breedlove Pita, Esquire
Board Member, Shareholder, and Consultant

Melanie Pita is a shareholder and consultant for MedLaw Claims Corporation. Melanie previously worked as a medical malpractice defenseattorney in Houston and was a partner with the law firm of Cooper & Scully, P.C. She specialized in defending hospitals, nurses and physicians throughout Texas. She has also worked as an Assistant Vice President and Claims Attorney for a third-party administrator managing healthcare litigation nationally and providing risk management assistance to her clients. Her experience in healthcare litigation makes her keenly aware of the risk management needs of hospitals and healthcare providers. Melanie Pita received her Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication with Highest Distinction from Indiana University and her Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree with Honors from Drake Law School. She is the co-chair of the Medical & Legal Support for Families Battling Cancer Committee. Melanie was named to H Texas Magazine’s “Top Attorneys in Houston” in December 2004 and Texas Monthly’s “Rising Stars – Top Lawyers Under 40” in July 2005.
